ABOUT THE JOURNAL

VISIONARY

VISIONARY, an e-Journal, endeavors to set a path leading all our readers to their cherished goal of improving English and developing a personality, unique in many ways. Your intimate and continuous acquaintance with the Journal will bring about significant changes in your lifestyle — changes of everlasting values.

VISIONARY, an e-periodical, is unique in many respects  and is useful to all those:

1. who are in schools, colleges and universities either as students or teachers;

2. who are holding responsible positions in government, corporate and multinational offices;

3. who interact with public extensively;

4. who desire to improve  their English and develop a unique personality;

5. who are desiring to be  journalists;

6. who are endeavoring to be authors;

7. who are freelance writers;

8. who teach English language in hundreds of private coaching institutes;

9. who are managing household affairs;

10. who are working in numerous Call Centers.

Multiple Functions of the Journal

1. The Journal acts as an instructor.
2. It provides a variety of exercises on various aspects of English grammar and  usage, along with answers for these exercises.
3. It provides additional support to teachers of English language.
4. Its regular study creates a strong self-confidence among our readers.
5. Our readers will grow intellectually and will develop a unique personality    fast.

VISIONARY is equally useful for the examinees of GRF, GMAT, TOEFL, SAT and IELTS.  The syllabi prescribed for these examinations get abundantly reflected in writings and exercises, which the Journal will carry.

Similarly, those who take Civil Services examinations conducted by Union Public Service Commission, State Public Service Commissions, and Staff Selection Commissions/Boards for various subordinate and senior positions, will find the Journal helpful.

Once a senior executive said:

“After graduating from college I didn’t feel the need to take more English courses. When I started looking for a job, I realized that including the knowledge of English language in the resume was definitely a plus  advantage that I didn’t have. Only then did I decide to study English seriously.”

This is how a majority of young students passing out from schools/colleges feel. They regret that they did not give proper and adequate attention to the study of English at the appropriate time.

All agree that a good knowledge of English ensures a better job with more pay and more wide open doors into the business world.  This is because the role of English in storing and imparting knowledge has expanded by leaps and bounds. English is the dominant language on the Internet (though by no means the only one); international business is conducted in English, as, increasingly, is diplomacy. It is the language of government in many countries.

Contents of VISIONARY

Our Vocabulary Building exercises will enable our readers to have control over a fairly good reservoir of words. A large number of books and newspapers (Indian and foreign) will be consulted. Among Indian authors, what we have inherited from Jawaharlal Nehru, S. Radhakrishnan, and Aurobindo Ghosh, and many more will form a very prominent part of our exercises. The pages of your Journal will be interspersed with what our countrymen have been inspired for decades.

And those whose writings will decorate the pages of the Journal will,  among others, be Swami Vivekananda,  Subhas Chandra Bose, Sardar Patel, Karan Singh, Ruskin Bond, Amartya Sen, A.K.Ramanujan, Abha Dawesar, Amitav Ghosh,  Satyajit Ray, Arundhati Roy, Bipasa Sidhwa, R.K. Narayan, Rabindranath Tagore, Sukumar Roy, and other eminent writers and scholars, besides the classic authors who are still read after decades of their passing away.

Novels, stories, biographies, autobiographies, travelogues, etc., by renowned and eminent authors whose writings have been recognized as classic are consulted so that we have a strong store of words as well as views of these authors which have set them apart from millions of others.

We are all aware that a powerful vocabulary will:

1.   maximize our power of persuasion;

2.   help us to win friends and influence people;

3.   transform our power of expression;

4.   energize our thinking power;

5.   pay us real dividends in business and social advancement;

6.   increase our earning power;

7.   enhance our social status;

8.   make us more dynamic;

9.   enable us to become a fluent  conversationalist;

10. enable us to articulate our most complex  thoughts and ideas;

11. build our self-confidence;

12. lend color to our  personality;

13. transform our negotiating  skills

Do we need to study grammar to learn a language? The short answer is “no”. Very many people in the world speak their own native language without having studied its grammar. Children start speaking before they even know the word “grammar”. But if you are serious about learning a foreign language (as opposed to your native language), the long answer is “yes, grammar can help you to learn a language more quickly and more efficiently.” It’s important to think of grammar as something that can help you, like a friend. When you understand the grammar (or system) of a language, you can understand many things yourself, without having to ask a teacher or look in a book.

Various aspects of English grammar will be extensively reflected in our grammar exercises, accompanied with answers.  This exercise-answer method will allow our readers to sit comfortably at home and write fairly grammatically correct English and watch their progress themselves.

Exercises on improvement of spelling and structure of sentences are constructed in such a manner that our readers will find them both interesting and fruitfully productive. Jumbled up sentences and words, filling up of blanks in sentences with prepositions and other words will set our readers in a challenging mood.

NK Centre for Educational Studies is engaged in preparing a few works on English language improvement.  We will share contents of these publications with our readers from time to time.  One such publication is Writing Creatively.  This will give them an opportunity to find out and understand how to write effectively and correctly -- the important traits needed most these days.

A regular and serious study of VISIONARY will bring about a distinct improvement in the behaviour of students and readers, their dealings with colleagues and their relationship with people at large.  Professional competence will increase and the desire to go forward will brighten.  Ideas contained in articles appearing in the Journal from time to time will serve as a challenge to the youngsters and others alike: they must read them carefully and imbibe in them all the good qualities of life — qualities which should become prominent traits of their personality, their way of life.

Inspiring and encouraging ideas will enthuse in our readers an intense desire to do something worthwhile and will awaken their dormant spirit.  They will take a firm decision to live a life that is useful for them and for others and will begin to feel that they have the capacity and ability to dare every challenge of life because they have now started reading VISIONARY.

By and by, their ability to write reports, essays, short synopses, official correspondence and similar other documents will be enhanced and their desire to take up such assignments without any fear will increase.
